Giving one an atmosphere of being on another planet , Isalo National Park that is geographically located in the South West of Madagascar surprisingly offers its special particularities , making the place unique and leaving visitors astonished after their unforgettable visits in this most visited National Park. History of the Park Isalo National Park with its superficie of 81.540 Ha of was opened in 1962.The Madagascar National Park authority has run it since 1997. It is in the Ihorombe region and inhabited by the dominant tribe called Bara who basically live on Zebu farming even though other ethnic groups are there to reside.The Park held burial sites of the local Bara before its creation and it still does nowadays.FaunaThis place is ideal for bird watching for 80 species , including Benson’s rock thrush its endemic bird. It is a home of three diurnal lemurs: red-fronted and ring-tailed lemurs , verreaux’s sifaka , plus its nocturnal species such as grey mouse lemurs , coquerel’s giant mouse lemur and red-tailed sportive lemur , possibly spotted on night tours. It gives unexpected and great views of reptiles: ground snakes , cameleons and frogs , stick lizards and stick insects. FloraThis unique National Park is mostly dominated by tapia trees located in high altitude and that’s an endemic species of the country holds more than 400 species including elephant foot baobab ( Pachypodium rosulatum) ,carnivorous plant ( Drosera Madagascariensis) isalotse ( Ichnolepsis graminifolia) and its rare bamboo palm.
